The history of GFF

The Global FlyFisher started as a strike of luck, a flap of a butterfly's wing, a mere coincidence - more than 10 years ago.

By The GFF partners

This was the original mail announcing the opening of GFF, which was sent out to various people, mailing lists and media in April 1999. You can read more about the history of GFF here.

Subject: New web site - Global Fly Fisher
The Global Fly Fisher Grand Opening!

You are hereby cordially invited to the Grand Opening and birth of a brand new International web site for fly fishers and fly tyers.

You might have noticed that a couple of the web's most popular and most visited web sites, Midwest Flytyer and Fishing Denmark, have been somewhat passive during the last couple of months.
That is because we - the web masters of these two sites: Steve Schweitzer and Martin Joergensen - have been busy... very busy.

We have merged our sites and built The Global Fly Fisher the grand new International web site for fly fishers and fly tyers. The URL is http://globalflyfisher.com

This site is a merger between two sites already filled with articles, patterns, tying tips, pictures, drawings and all kinds of interesting information on fly fishing and fly tying. It will probably be the largest single site for the fly enthusiast.

At this point the site encompasses all the pages of Fishing Denmark.
We are currently working on the Midwest Flytyer pages which will be added ASAP.

Bon Aventure flies

Do you know what flies to tie for clear water and how to tie them? Follow the Danish flytier Ken Bonde Larsen carefully tie some attractive and yet not too visible flies for the Canadian salmon. Tubes are his favorite and some with new plastic discs.

Little Devil

An article on the Welsh classic The Diawl Bach and on the intriguing and intimidating concept of fishing a team of three flies on a very long leader. GFF partner Martin Joergensen has been to Wales and this is the first article from that trip.

Surf Candy

Experimenting with epoxy might glue you to the tying bench for hours, days, weeks. You can make highly durable, translucent baitfish imitations using synthetics and epoxy. Some years ago Bob Popovic's book "Pop Fleyes" introduced Kasper Mühlbach to the Surf Candy.

Bob White

Bob White is probably best known for his illustrations for John Gierach's long running column in the printed magazine Fly Rod and Reel. Here he tells a bit about how it all started, how he works - and that he also guides and has done so through 27 seasons from south to north, home and abroad.

Eyes of Epoxy

Tired of buying eyes, that make your shrimps look great? They are expensive and yet it is hard to find the color you want or the right size. It is not complicated and a good pursuit during winter time. Make your own in all sizes and colors you want.
