Diane Michelin has been a professional watercolour artist for over 15 years, Diane was born in Montreal and currently resides in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

She explains her way of working:
"My watercolours describe the essence of fly fishing as told by exoctic paraphernalia, rusty pick up trucks, fishin' dogs and snazzy tackle. The story is about optimism, bits of fur and feathers, solitude and companionship. Each day on the river is notable in the mist off the water or the misadventure of the moment. Consequently, I am inclined to depict the everyday aspect of our passion amid the complexity of the water, light and colour."

Diane Michelin's paintings show anglers, scenery, landscapes, still life and other motifs, which most of us will recognize from our everyday fishing and hanging around streams and fly anglers.
Her painting style borders on the naive without being simplistic in any way. The colors are vibrant and she has a keen eye for precision and details, while some of her peices still have a stroke of impressionism.

Her work has been selected to decorate private homes, hotel rooms, film sets, lodges and a host of other locations. Fly shops, art shops and museums display and offer her paintings for sale in many places in Canada and North America.

As Diane expresses it:
"Basically, in each painting, I try to tell a story that represents the day to day events that fuel our passion."

She illustrates with an example:
"For example, I probably wouldn't do a still life of your fly box no matter how beautiful, but would love to do a painting of you chasing the open fly box downstream, after you dropped it, when you fell in the river... again!. For me it isn't about the fish, but the wonderful stories, that you hear in the fly shop or river bank."

Diane sells her paintings world wide, and ponders:
"Perhaps this is why I have been able to sell my paintings across North America and Europe. So many of the stories are similar even though each stream has its own magic."
