Small orange fly for for garfish
An oldie pattern from GFF
By Martin Joergensen
Chillimps or Jydsk Chillimps is actually a classical Danish stream sea trout fly. My prime use of it though, is for garfish,. Used in small sizes (#12-16), it's quite deadly, and the garfish will willingly go for the fly, that hooks the hard billed fish very efficiently because of it''s small size.

The garfish seems generally happy with any small orange fly. My friend Henning from the Bananaflies fishes them with a hook dubbed with orange SLF and a back of white antron. I did some experiments last year, using a hook wound over with some orange yarn. Highly effective and durable. But the Chillimps looks so much better.

Cod and similar species are a much underrated quarry for the fly fisherman. In places where it's very common like Denmark and Norway, they are even sometimes considered an annoying disturbance in the much 'finer' fishing for sea trout.
But cod can be an excellent game for the fisher whose gear and mind is tuned in on it, and the abundance and size of fish can easily justify a more focused fishing for cod.
